Getting Started
What is CropVoice?
CropVoice helps farmers take control of disease in their fields by sending alerts when disease is present, weeks before symptoms are scoutable in fields. These text and email alerts are powered by a network of first-of-their-kind soybeans and corn engineered to signal only when there is an active infection. Farmers also receive access to a real-time Control Center to monitor the status of disease in their area and weekly scouting reports with agronomic insights.
How does CropVoice work?
Farmers can monitor the real-time status of disease in their area and weekly scouting reports with agronomic insights through the real-time Control Center.
Farmers also receive Disease Alerts when there is confirmed above-ground soybean or corn fungal disease near their fields. This alerts farmers to actual pathogens infecting real soybean or corn plants in their area. Customers choose to receive Disease Alerts directly to their phone via text message and email, or as a notification to their John Deere Operations Center.
Scouting reports and Disease Alerts are powered by a network of CropVoice plots monitored daily that feature InnerSoy™ and InnerCorn™ sensors, a soybean plant engineered to signal only when there is infection from pathogens that cause diseases like frogeye leaf spot or white mold. Farmers can get started with CropVoice by enrolling through their local retailer or seed dealer.
How does the InnerSoy and InnerCorn technology work?
InnerSoy and InnerCorn plants are genetically engineered to fluoresce, or signal, when the plant's immune system responds to infection by fungal pathogens.
How do I get started with CropVoice?
The quickest way to get started is to call (877) 418-2062 or send us a note at CropVoice@InnerPlant.com. We can confirm whether CropVoice is available in your area and direct you to a local retailer or seed dealer who sells CropVoice.

How It Works
Does CropVoice sell inputs to manage disease?
No, InnerPlant does not sell crop protection inputs. InnerPlant is an independent agricultural technology company focused on developing biosensors to spotlight areas of concern so farmers can quickly take corrective measures to protect their crop and increase yields in a scalable, affordable way. While we partner with the retailers and seed dealers farmers trust, we encourage farmers to work directly with their trusted advisors to convert CropVoice insights into action.
How early does CropVoice detect disease compared to traditional scouting?
InnerSoy and InnerCorn are engineered to signal within hours of fungal infection. CropVoice delivers text alerts based on these signals, often weeks before symptoms are visible in fields.
Does CropVoice detect all diseases and how specific is the disease detection?
CropVoice detects disease from above-ground fungal pathogens of soybeans and corn. Specific identification is provided for soybean diseases like white mold, Cercospora leaf blight, and frogeye leaf spot. For the 2027 season, specific identification of corn diseases will be provided if available.
Does CropVoice provide a fungicide prescription?
No. CropVoice is designed to provide early and specific warning to farmers of fungal disease so they can quickly make the best decision for their particular operation. We encourage farmers to use this information with their trusted crop advisors to choose the best agronomic solution for their fields.
What data do you take into account when creating the disease forecast maps?
Our team has developed models for yield-threatening diseases that take into account several variables, including: temperature, rainfall, leaf wetness hours, windspeed, and humidity.
Can CropVoice distinguish between disease stress and other types of stress (like drought, nutrient) or insect pressure?
Yes. InnerSoy and InnerCorn used in CropVoice are engineered to signal only in the presence of fungal pathogens and do not signal from other types of stressors like insects, drought, or nutrient deficiency.
How do farmers access CropVoice Disease Alerts and scouting reports?
Disease Alerts and Scouting Reports are delivered through text message, email, or the John Deere Operations Center to the contact information you provide when enrolling. New for 2027, the CropVoice Control Center will be available through any web browser for real-time information about disease impacting your fields.
How does CropVoice differ from other in-field sensors (like crop sensors, drones, etc.)?
Unlike digital or mechanical sensors, CropVoice relies on actual living corn and soybean plants engineered to emit optical signals within hours of being stressed by fungal pathogens, called InnerCorn and InnerSoy. CropVoice combines those signals with other key data, molecular assays, environmental modeling and experienced scouting to confirm specific soybean and corn diseases, often before symptoms are scoutable by humans or other in-field sensors in the field.
What determines whether a Disease Alert is called for a specific field?
InnerCorn and InnerSoy plants are monitored daily. A Disease Alert is triggered when InnerSoy or InnerCorn plants signal that there is actual disease infecting a corn or soybean plant. A Disease Alert is determined for a specific field based on the proximity and similarity of the environmental and management conditions of the infected InnerSoy or InnerCorn plants.
How do I translate a Disease Alert to what action I should take for my specific field?
CropVoice Disease Alerts tell you if there is actual disease detected that may impact your fields. The Disease Alert will generally indicate a specific disease detected and forecasted impact to yield. Recommendations on potential actions to take and factors to consider will be included where possible.
You know your fields and farm conditions best, including agronomic factors like: row spacing, irrigation, planted variety susceptibility, planting date, disease history of each field; as well as economic factors like: your farm’s cost of fungicide and application, and projected yield. CropVoice provides information about disease presence, and you can tailor this to your specific situation.
If you ever want to discuss this with a trained agronomist, please give us a call at (877) 418-2062 or talk to your local agronomist or retailer about the CropVoice Disease Alert.
What is a sensor plant?
An InnerPlant sensor plant is a first-of-its-kind plant engineered to signal when infected a fungal pathogens. The plant sends a signal through fluorescence within hours of stress onset, oftentimes weeks before visible symptoms appear in fields.
What is fluorescence?
Fluorescence is when a substance absorbs light and then re-emits it as a different color of light. InnerPlant engineers its sensor plants to produce a unique fluorescent signal when they experience stresses from above-ground fungal pathogens, allowing specialized cameras to detect the signal and alert farmers before visible symptoms appear.
What is InnerSoy and InnerCorn?
InnerSoy and InnerCorn are the brand names for InnerPlant's proprietary soybean and corn sensor plants.
What is a CropVoice scouting report?
CropVoice scouting reports are detailed scouting reports sent weekly with agronomic insights and disease forecasts. Scouting reports are available throughout the growing season when disease risk is greatest (roughly after planting through the end of August). The reports include all data available from the disease triangle (host, pathogen, environment) relevant to a particular farm.
What is a CropVoice Disease Alert?
CropVoice Disease Alerts warn farmers to actual disease that may impact their fields and the level of risk. Disease Alerts are sent as detections happen and only to impacted farmers. Farmers can receive multiple Disease Alerts per field, per season, depending on disease activity. Customers can choose to receive Disease Alerts directly to their phone via text message or email, or as a notification to their John Deere Operations Center. New for 2027, Disease Alerts will be visible in the CropVoice Control Center that farmers can log-in to via web browser.
Disease Alerts
What does it mean if I do not receive a Disease Alert?
If no Disease Alerts are provided, it means that the CropVoice network has not detected fungal diseases that would impact your fields. Discuss with your retailer or agronomist how this information may impact your fungicide plan.
How does a “high-risk” disease risk forecast in a Scouting Report differ from a Disease Alert?
A "high-risk" disease forecast in a scouting report indicates that environmental conditions are conducive and/or pathogen presence is detected and/or the crop is highly susceptible; but no disease has actually been confirmed across the CropVoice network. A Disease Alert is triggered when InnerSoy or InnerCorn plants signal that there is an actual infection.
What do the Disease Alert different color ratings mean (e.g., the Red, Orange, and Yellow)?
A Disease Alert is sent when the CropVoice network detects actual disease, with three possible color-coded ratings:
Yellow: Watch-out provided for farmer awareness. Farmers should monitor susceptible fields.
Orange: Warning notifying farmers that higher risk to yield is likely. Action may be warranted in some cases given specific risk factors.
Red: Action warranted. Potential yield loss is highest. Farmers should consider applying fungicide.
Discuss with your retailer or agronomist how to best address the increased risk or detected disease in your fields.
How does CropVoice identify and confirm specific diseases?
CropVoice monitors InnerSoy and InnerCorn plants daily, the first-of-their-kind soybeans and corn engineered to signal when there is infection from above-ground fungal pathogens. After analyzing over 200,000 images of InnerSoy and InnerCorn, the data scientists at InnerPlant have developed proprietary computer vision models that categorize the patterns of fluorescence into the most likely disease.
In addition, InnerPlant runs an extensive weekly tissue sampling and molecular assay program across the CropVoice network during the season to detect the presence of pathogens. Scientists at InnerPlant have developed proprietary molecular assays, or tests, to determine if DNA from a specific pathogen is present in a foliar tissue sample.
Our team uses the disease identification models combined with molecular assays, environmental modeling, and experienced scouting to identify specific soybean diseases in season, often before symptoms are scoutable by humans in the field.
How many Disease Alerts can I expect to receive about an enrolled field?
Each field can receive multiple Disease Alerts throughout a season, depending on different diseases detected and the changing severity of each disease.
Scouting Reports
What do the disease risk ratings in my CropVoice scouting report mean?
Every CropVoice scouting report includes a disease risk forecast for the week ahead, so you can see at a glance how likely disease development is in your area. Once disease is actually detected, you will receive a Disease Alert.
Ratings are generated by InnerPlant’s proprietary disease forecast models, which combine three factors:
- Crop susceptibility at its current growth stage
- Pathogen presence and where the pathogen is in its lifecycle
- Environmental conditions such as temperature, rainfall, leaf wetness hours, windspeed, and humidity.
High risk — Conditions strongly favor infection. Crop susceptibility, pathogen presence, and environmental conditions are aligned such that infection is likely in the week ahead, but no actual disease has yet been detected.
Medium risk — Conditions are moderately favorable. Risk may be elevated in some fields or parts of your area depending on crop maturity and local conditions, but is not uniformly high.
Low risk — Conditions are not favorable for infection in the week ahead.
Can I customize the reports (e.g., just include disease or weather updates)?
Yes. Coming in April 2027, you will be able to customize your scouting reports from the CropVoice Control Center on any web browser.
In the CropVoice scouting report, what are the Environmental Conditions Affecting Disease Risk and what do they mean?
The environmental conditions that affect disease risk that CropVoice reports out include cumulative rainfall, average temperature and humidity, cumulative leaf wetness hours, and in-canopy humidity.
Cumulative Rainfall
What it is: The scouting report displays a chart with the cumulative rainfall over the course of the season to date, for the specific reported region. The cumulative rainfall for this season is compared to a red line indicating the historical rainfall average since 2000.
Why it matters/what it means: Moisture is critical for crop growth, as well as fungal growth. Outside of irrigated fields, rainfall is the major source of moisture in-season.
Average Temperature
What it is: The scouting reports display the average temperature from the rolling previous 30-days (so each new scouting report will drop the oldest week and add the newest week of data). This is compared to the historical temperature average since 2000.
Why it matters/what it means: Different pathogens have specific ranges of temperature where they can infect crops and rapidly multiply. Awareness of these ranges is critical to understand disease pressure.
Average Humidity
What it is: The scouting reports display the average humidity from the rolling previous 30-days (so each new scouting report will drop the oldest week and add the newest week of data). This is compared to the historical temperature average since 2000.
Why it matters/what it means: Many pathogens thrive in warm, moist environments. With higher relative humidity, leaves stay wet longer, allowing for pathogens to sporulate. Different pathogens have specific ranges of temperature and humidity where they can infect crops and rapidly multiply.
Cumulative Leaf Wetness Hours
What it is: The scouting reports display the number of hours where leaves are most likely to be moist (the number of hours where humidity is >80%). This is compared to the historical cumulative leaf wetness hour average since 2000, the accumulation starts as of May 10.
Why it matters/what it means: Many plant pathogens require moisture on the surface of plants to be able to infect. Cumulative leaf wetness hours provides context on the opportunity that a pathogen may have to infect a host plant.
In-Canopy Humidity
What it is: The scouting reports display the average in-canopy humidity for well-watered soybeans in the district, based on a USDA-ARS-backed model, validated by data coming off of our equipment in the field, close to the ground between rows.
Why it matters/what it means: the humidity level that matters the most for disease development is the humidity level around the plant. While ambient humidity gives a general idea of disease favorability in the region in general, this key variable gives information more specific to the conditions within soybean fields in the in specific.
